Choosing a solicitor

Hi everyone,
How did you choose your solicitor?
Did you pay for the first session to decide whether to use them or not? How many solicitors did you speak to?
For those that didn't use legal aid, did you agree a fixed fee up front or did you pay by the hourly rate?
Thanks

Hi worriedmum
If they request duty solicitor when questioning its free. My partner had his interview a couple of weeks back, the duty solicitor was the same as when he originally got taken in. It was her that contacted him to be called in for questioning again. Yet to be charged, she recommended a solicitor who will contact him once he has a court date and is charged. I’ve looked him up, local and has experience in this sort of thing so will go with him. I want to pay upfront 1 total fee if we can, we need to know where we are financially if he looses his job. The waiting has allowed us to save as much as we can, so I hope we have enough!

Hi worried mum
I think your name sums me up perfectly!
my partner's solicitor is specialised in the field of sexual offences, I googled that and chose one from a list, he has turned out to be brilliant! Very sympathetic, he is always available for a phone call for advice, even evenings and weekends! He really is a diamond. My partner is still released under investigation but he is ready for when he is called for a second interview, at his first interview he said no comment.
Of course there are good and bad but I would try and get someone who specialises in this field.
Best wishes
