I never expected I'd be in a place like this. My partner of 5 years got charged with possession of IOCC (~250 images, mostly cat C but all categories included). Not excusing his actions at all, but he has shown genuine remorse and commitment to change. He understands what he did was wrong and has been super compliant with everyone during this process. It's his first offense and everyone has told him not to worry about prison. Of course it was a possibility, but his probation officer, pre-sentencing therapist, and solicitor all said prison was very, very unlikely. None of them could prepare him for what happened on Thursday.
He was sentenced for 8 months. He will be serving the 4 months in prison, then 4 months on license. Everyone is shocked. I am heartbroken. Nobody prepared us for this because everyone said the chances of this happening were near 0. I don't even know what to do. I haven't even been given an opportunity to speak with him yet while they do the intake process. His mom, sister, and I are all gutted by this.
