Notification requirements
Notifications OFF
I am interested to learn about others experiences with the police, once their family member has signed the register.
We don't believe the communications we are receiving fall in line with the legal requirements and documentation the police left following their first visit.
So I questioned our understanding stating we want to ensure the requirements are met and at no point breached.
They are advising they need to be notified whenever our family member plans to visit or is visited by a person under 18. They have advised this is in every instance the family member cannot be present until he (nominated police officer) is notified and all relevant safeguarding referrals have been completed and social services made aware.
These occurances are going to be slim however I have reread all of their documentation and our family member is to notify the police if the addendance if for at least 12 hours.
In addition, he was told during that first meeting with the police he is not allowed to attend the gym. I can see nothing anywhere that prevents such attendance. The same as the cinema, Tesco, football game they will be around children. It can't be avoided!
Are the police saying for all of such visits a safe guarding referral is required and social services notified?

If your SHPO doesn't have any contact restrictions then you are correct. You should get your solicitor to draft a response to them saying as much.
Thank you. Sentencing has been put back again. So unfortunatly we are still without the SHPO. Currently only on the register.
We stick firmly and closely to the SOR rules. We don't have a shpo. The SOR rules are very clear and easily available online. There are no footnotes about gyms etc. This type of restriction would be in a SHPO.
Of course, some places such as center parcs say in their t&c's they no one on the register can attend. That should be abided by, of course, although it's not a matter relevant to the SOR (unless you're staying somewhere for 6+ nights). Some gyms might have this clause.
For other things though, sometimes, the less you mention/ask, the less opportunity someone has to say 'no'.

After too many emails back and forward with the police they have finally conceded. From telling me if a person under 18 enters our home our family member will have to leave to telling us any planned visits to a place where under 18's live will require their approval and a referral to social services to now agreeing that the requirements are as I understood detailed on the register documents they provided. I can't help but feel they are making this more difficult than it needed to be.
Reminding me in a sarcastic tone of their role is to protect the community and moving forward my family member should contact them directly if they have any concerns!
Once again I have pointed out he is severely dyslexic and I am therefore supporting him to ensure he understands and meets the requirements.
