Following my OH pre sentence probation meeting I requested a referral to SS. Got the first call Xmas eve and seemed happy with my safety plan, had a second call today from my allocated SW, she seems lovely (hoping it stays that way), explained everything, told her the boys Dad is supportive, explained my immediate family know. We don't live together but any contact is supervised by me at all times, never had an overnight stay at the house with the kids here etc. Discussed where I worked - it's in a private hospital so she wanted to know if I had pateient contact as there may be a 'transfer of risk' which she said was unlikely but she'd check with her boss - I told her my boss knew of the situation already, so let's see what happens there. (Transfer of risk being that if I can't evidence managing any risk at home, then that would deem me a risk in the workplace!) I went on to explain my career that had involved safeguarding throughout, that I'd completed numerous qualifications, done all the parent protect programme and shown Pantasaurus to my youngest. I've got a book that was recommended on here called 'Someone Should have Told me' ...it's brilliant. I'm going to do it again with my eldest and youngest again.
Upshot is she's coming to my house 8 Jan to meet me and the boys, agreed we'd need to prepare an age appropriate explaination as they have no idea what's going on or that they're about to be allocated a SW. My plan after the new year will be to go through the book again as it will lead me on to the 'these mistakes can happy to anyone at any age and are happening with adults too...' I don't want the first time they hear about this to be from anyone other than me. I will of course explain this to the SW.
Not sure if that's helpful for anyone, and I'd love to hear if anyone can share similar experiences of that initial meeting - what to expect, how long she'll be here, what she's likely to say etc.
Thanks as always xx
