Dear Starr,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention on the Family and Friends Forum. We are sorry to hear that our moderation processes have been confusing to you. As our forum is hosted on a public platform, we moderate posts from new users to ensure that individuals are suitable to our forum and that the forum remains a safe place for those who use it. New users remain on moderation until we have enough information about their circumstance. This includes information about the person of concern and their offence, as our forum is specifically designed for partners, ex-partners, family members and friends of individuals who have committed online offences. Once you have been taken off moderation, you can submit posts on the forum without moderation.

We hope this helps.

Kind regards,

The Forum Team

Dear Starr,

Thank you for your reply to our message. Please let us assure you that we will take onboard your suggestion of making our moderation processes more visible on the forum. At the moment, our moderation process is highlighted on the forum home page, although we appreciate that some individuals may not see it. We will therefore look into making this clearer for everyone. We can understand why you would feel uneasy about the possibility of us gathering information about individuals’ circumstances. However, we hope to reassure you that we do not gather or record any forum user information; we monitor the posts made by new forum users, which includes references they make to their situation, to ensure that the forum is a suitable place for them to access support. Within this, we are also looking to ensure the safety and wellbeing of other forum users.

We hope that knowing a bit more about our moderation processes and why we ask for information from our users will help reduce some of your feelings of unease, but please know that you are welcome to contact us at forum@lucyfaithfull.org.uk if you would like to discuss this further.

Kind regards,

The Forum Team
