Pre sentence report

how far in advance of sentencing is this done please?
A date for sentencing was confirmed in our case, about 8 weeks after the guilty plea. 3 weeks prior the pre sentencing appointment was carried out. However the report was not completed until the day prior to sentencing. Sentencing has now been moved for another 3 months x
my OH has his pre sentence report done today ready for sentencing next week.
he has his plea at crown court in november and then beginning of december he got a call with a date and time to do his pre sentence report.
it went really well, in fact better than expected, was told that he will have it written up and sent to my OH judge/court by wednesday ready for next week and he was advised to let his barrister know what his recommendations were and that he had met up with the probation officer etc, was also told that the probation officer who did his report was going to be the one who hes under once sentencing was done. xx

Sorry to sound stupid but what is actually in a pre-sentence report?
If anyone has left their partner but has children with them, have they been shown the presentence report?
Right now I'm trying desperately to sort my head out about whether to go down the route of allowing contact in the future or not, I would only allow supervised contact, probably through a contact centre but it's weighing up risks/benefits. so any information that would help me understand his risk levels would be so helpful...as I only get information from the OIC and SS which I guess may have some bias?
Thanks,

My persons pre sentence report was done about a week before sentencing.
Lrf, a pre sentence report is written by a probation officer following an interview with the person facing sentencing. The report should provide the court with some understanding of what led to commit the person committing the offence, and how how they feel about it now. The report suggests the most appropriate sentence for the committed offence is and makes recommendations to the sentencing court.
The risk assessment is based on the risk of reoffending and impact reoffending could have. I think it would be difficult to decide from this what contact arrangements should be as the scoring system in the assessment can mean that people score a medium risk due to their age,

Hi, the report it lengthy in content and gives clear and very specific details of the offences. It goes into detail of what they believe is the cause of the offending and the persons relationships, financial situation, any substance misuse, physical and mental behaviour, thinking and behaviour, trauma, caring responsibilities, category of risk and likelihood of reoffending, if they are at risk of serious harm, in addition to the recommend sentence xx
Thank you all they said they would call to arrange an appointment but they haven't. Court is next week
