Ofcom has set a July deadline for social media to introduce proper age verification. Apparently it doesn't apply to dating sites, which is strange and I was reading an article about Grindr which says their app can only be purchased by a child under 13 with parental consent.

There must be lots of apps in the app store that are rated over 18, so does anyone know what age checks they currently do, to prevent a child from installing them?

None of the major ones do any age checks at all as far as I am aware. Grindr's terms and conditions say it is for over 18s only but there is absolutely nothing in place to stop anyone under that age using it. That it has taken until 2025 for governments to do anything about this is actually mind boggling. These apps have been around for almost two decades now.

Also, calling Grindr a "dating" app is being generous. It's a hook up app and 95% of gay men treat it as such. Tinder is also used as a hook up app by lots of straight folks. We all know this. The companies know this. Governments know this.

No one really cares, do they? It's all about money.

Can't get on the wrong side of the tech giants, a bit of lip service here and there but that's it..it'll amount to nothing and children will continue to suffer.
