my father was arrested (sting op for online sexual communication with a child) with charges dropped a few weeks later. he was held in custody overnight then released. 2 days later he killed himself.
I'm so confused. did he or didn't he. police must have had evidence. sting op must have been true. then for charges to be dropped but he's dead now. would I trust him anyway. would I know what was true or not whatever he told me
meanwhile my mother (they're divorced for many years) is asking. she knows I'm upset about something so I tell her he's died but none of the details. I just don't want to talk to her about him. she pushed, I pushed back. I know she'll ask again, and I will still refuse. it's none of her business. but i keep having these thoughts going through my head about having to deal with her curiosity.

Hi,
I'm sorry for your loss. You will probably never know if your father had done anything. Charges would be dropped following notification of his passing as there is nobody to bring to justice. It's not clear from your post if your father knew that charges were dropped or not.
He may have suffered mental trauma from being arrested and held in custody and that was too much for him to bear. Perhaps a coroner's enquiry may provide you with some information around his police interview but I'm not certain on this xxx

Hi, I'm so sorry. I agree, your Mum should be supporting you, not causing you more stress. I'm not sure but this popped into my mind but could you do a subject access request to the Police to get any information they hold on him? Also, I'm not sure where you are with regard to when your Dad died but I assume there will be an inquest into the circumstances. Information should come out then. I wish you all the very best. X
