Hi,

What does it mean when the OIC says there is several tens of thousands of pictures on one of the devices.

They say it will take a while to go through them. The devices were downloaded a few months ago.

Does it mean it's ten of thousands of pictures that were flagged up as potentially illegal? Or is it just tens of thousands of pictures in general that include innocent pictures, selfies, unrelated pictures, etc...

Thank you

Could be either to be honest. A normal phone photo album backed up from cloud has on average 3000+ photos. Can you not ask for clarification?

But for someone who has downloaded IIOC in those numbers, many of them will be on the CAID database and so it would be software that just matches the photo metadata on your OH's device with that stored on the database. So no real need for police to look at every individual photo.

It sounds like they are saying there's lots of normal pictures but they want to make sure there's no "new" IIOC in there. But again this doesn't need to take that long because software searches for and flags pictures with large amounts of skin tone exposure (I.e nudity). So they may just be making excuses for their delays.

I dont think it's clear from what you've been told which way it leans, I would ask the OIC what she meant by that and just explain you're trying to get as much information as you can do you can make decisions about your future.

They found a very large volume on my ex's phone, so much that the OIC said they 'stopped looking' eventually because the number far exceeded the thresholds for CPS.

They could run them through the CAID but from my understanding and officer also has to go through them manually as some of the sentencing guidelines on aggravating factors centre on if a child appeared in pain or distress and they provide a description of some of the worst images from each category to the judge so they can decide on their sentence.

I'm not an expert this is just what I've been told by the OIC in this case so it could be different where you are.
