Returning to social media
Notifications OFF
Good morning all,
Has anyone returned to social media after media coverage we are a few weeks away from conviction spent and a year from media attention, no issues in the community one neighbour crosses the road to avoid oh but nothing else, I never read any comments at the time a few family members recieved messages at the time of media attention mostly of fake profiles.
I really need social media for my job but scared to put myself out there

Hi,
I never came off social media. The police article on Facebook was removed within a few hours and I was in hospital during the hours it was up. I had a friend request from someone he used to work with following the media coverage but nothing else.
You haven't done anything wrong xxx

I never left either, I just curated my friends list to remove anyone from his social life which to be fair wasn't many. I recieved one friend request from one of his acquaintances which I declined. It was quite therapeutic having a good online clear out!
I am also in some local groups which I tend to only observe (online curtain twitcher) and I've stayed in those too.
Social media is a double edged sword, it's as brilliant as it is awful and you can protect yourself in terms of your exposure and who can contact you.
I wish you all the best for the coming weeks.

I came off social media just before this plea hearing and remained away from it until a couple of months after sentencing. Both the plea hearing and sentencing were posted on social media by a local newspaper. I chose not to read it or the comments.
I've now been back on social media for over a year and haven't had any issues.

I stopped using facebook and have absolutely no regrets. Yes I have lost touch with some but I feel it's safer for my mental health. It's a platform that can occasionally lead to upsetting comments and I have just stripped anything that can do that out my life.
Never came off even after I received some pretty vile online abuse. Deleted a lot of folk though - those who I thought were nosy and not real friends. I also received a lot of support online so it can do good.
I've done nothing wrong so why shouldn't I have a SM presence.
