So 'we' are still waiting for CPS but the charges are serious... videos and communication with real not decoys all online so we think prison is going to happen but my question is do they get released automatically after serving half the time and the second half on license? x

If the person is on a determinate sentence they will only serve part of that sentence in prison. They should be informed of their release date as part of the reception process. How long the person spends in prison depends on the length of the custodial sentence given.

The sentencing council guidelines say for sentences of less than four years, it is half in prison and then half on licence (has been reduced to 40% prison, 60% licence since labour came in especially for sentences under two years)

Over four years its two thirds in prison and then the remainder on licence.

Breaking licence conditions or committing new offences can result in recall to prison and having to serve part or all of the remaining sentence in prison.

So sorry to hear of your situation. Often they are lying to us about their offences- either through fear or not really understanding ter impact on victims.

My son was given 63 months, considered for release on licence after 26 months.

I hope r outcome is more optimistic.

Usually, yes. However if more details of other crimes come to light then that could cause problems. The other thing is whether they "behave" inside etc as tone can be added for any sort of breach of prison life. X

I believe sexual offences are excluded from the 40% reduction, so it will be 50%.

50% to be completed, 2/3rds doesn't apply to non-contact online based offences as far as I am aware!
