Hello ladies.

So was just asking and having a chat with my O/H about getting benefits etc.

So at the moment he gets carers allowance for looking after the house etc and keeping it clean and stuff.

Myself is unemployed due to health issues and cannot work. I don't claim a penny but now I will be.

What benefits are out there for us both ?

xx

you can apply for universal credit and ask for a health assessment, some people get an extra amount if they're deemed unable to work. when claiming jointly you can also get a carer premium.

the amount your entitled to receive will be based on what other income you have coming in. carers allowance is a taxable benefit so will reduce your claim pund for pound. any earned income will be deducted at 55% I believe.

you may also be able to claim pip if your illness affects your ability to do certain daily tasks. it's a nightmare to claim, I'd say get help filling the forms from a charity. they're not concerned with what your diagnosis is but how it affects you day to day and uses very specific descriptors. pip isn't means tested so your income won't affect it.

you've gotta apply for everything, you just never know what you'll be entitled too.

hope you get some financial help sorted

How does your OH get carers allowance if you aren't claiming anything? You can't get CA unless you're looking after someone who gets PIP or Attendance Allowance.

Carers Allowance is taken from UC £ for £ but you can claim a small amount of carers element with UC if you both fit the criteria. There are loads of benefit entitlement calculators that should give you a rough idea of what you can claim. Good luck. X

I would go to a citizens advice and they will have the knowledge of what they think you can claim.
