It's nearly 18 months since the Knock and we were advised not to engage a solicitor until we knew what the charges were. Then we waited.

Eventually they finished the forensics and he had the first interview. He was represented by a duty solicitor and now has a magistrates court date.

He works so won't qualify for legal aid, and the case will presumably go to Crown. Just a rough idea as we have very little in the way of savings.

Will £4,000 be enough as he's pleading guilty?

My person is my uncle who got the knock 13 days ago, he was represented by duty solicitor in magistrates on the Monday and then was told he would be back in magistrates at the end of March. He has appointed the duty solicitor to represent him going forward, and they have given us an invoice for £1800 which covers that first appearance in magistrates, getting a pre-sentence report together and representing him a second time in magistrates. Not sure if that helps, but best of luck x

Can only say what it has cost us for Specalist solicitor, don't know if an ordinary one could deal with such cases. I guess it depends on circumstances.

As young relative was 17, depressed and drinking at the time etc the Solicitors tried to get it put back to a Police caution, this cost, the huge sum of £10,000, it failed but as he is severely depressed their talking to and helping him got him to court rather than attempt to take his life again.

He pleaded guilty, now they want a further £10,000 to represent him! It has taken all my life savings and a loan we will not have the retirement we hoped for. The costs are horrendous.

My person has just paid £800 for solicitor to attend magistrates for plea hearing. It's going to cost him approximately £2000 for representation at crown court (guilty plea) hope this is helpful x

Craggie164, can I ask was this a Solicitor that specialises in this court of crime? can't believe we've been quoted so much . I really don't know if we are throwing our money away.

Thank you all so much

He's had a quote of £750 from the firm that the duty solicitor was from

And £1500 +expenses for the barrister for the sentencing

So that seems in the ball park of what has been suggested

Granny, that sounds horrendous
