For those of you that have managed to get a friend or family member to supervise your children, what have they had to go through with social services?

it all seems a bit much with my friend so far, they have offered to supervise as of course social services won't allow me to (still no genuine reason as to why not) but so far they have had to give 10+ years worth of addresses, DBS check and now a risk assessment. Is this all a bit much?

I only ask as I've supervised for families in the past (various reasons) but not had to go through that much. Just a dbs that's it.

did your friend or family member have to go through this? I just fear it may be a bit off putting to my friend.

fyi this friend of mine is more like family the amount of time I've know them

Can't really comment lovely, I don't have anyone who can supervisor other than the boys Dad - who's been a complete legend tbh! So the upshot is, if my OH wants to come for tea, I'd be asking my ex husband to be here as well. Errrrr awkward hahaha (hysteria kicking in!!) xx

Hi,

his parents supervised alongside myself for the first 18 months. They literally had one meeting with me and sw, no dbs check or formal assessment or anything like that.

It does seem a lot really xxx

Hi Dragonmama, that does sound very extreme. Both my husband and myself have been able to supervise since day one and we didn't have to do any courses or provide any evidence to SS.

We are currently closed to SS but do have a SHPO in place. The only requirement now is that the supervisor is fully aware of the SHPO restrictions and charges.

Sw doesn't even want me present when contact happens. Basically hand over to friend and say off you go. It's not happening.

no offence to my friend and they agree, my littlest one they would find hard to manage.

Ss really don't seem to want to allow contact unless a contact centre and again I would need to be present as little one has needs that only I can manage.
