We are now just over 7 months into this horrible nightmare with my son whose 16.

Last week and today I tried to get update but no joy. The OIC advised me he's contacted the team who checks devices and stated my son is a child and this is all having a negative impact on his mental health and his A levels.

One thing I asked was would my sons devices have been checked prior to sending off and he stated no its that something that would have happened in this case. Not sure if that's good or bad.

I don't get why cases all seem to follow a different path. I get the backlog but feel when children are accused they should be dealt with different because this stuff can potentially ruin their lives before they start. Don't get me wrong if someone's guilty they pay the price but how many innocent people are caught up in this through no fault of their own.

I am so sorry that your 16 year old son has had this long wait. The long wait seems really unkind way to treat youths who end up in this mess.

We can relate to this scenario as the young person in our family waited just over a year from the knock to attending youth court. He was around the same age as your son, so we can also relate to it affecting their studies.

Do you think it may be helpful to put your concerns in writing, maybe to the OIC's boss. We did not do this, but on reflection it may be something we should have done, as it may have sped things up.

It does seem common that the police have a central pile for these cases and do not appear to treat youths any quicker than adults. If your son's case goes to the CPS this is normally dealt with a bit quicker as they actually have a youth section of the CPS.

Thank you. It's a strain on the whole family.

It's the not knowing where he's supposed to have accessed something. Is it Snapchat or a link he's clicked on. If devices come back clear I often wonder would they tell us anything then. Fact it's is user name and our IP address seems very vague.

The OIC says they've told us more than most get but feel they've told us nothing.

Husband wants to complain when it's over but doubt he will. Too much stigma around it.
