Too many hurdles to mention in one go, but two big ones

I can't comment on the court case where it will be but it is definitely not true about the LFF. 100% give them a call and they will be able to advise and assist! They have programs for him and you too should you feel like you need it.
Hi BrokenDad
Your son would be eligible to do the Inform Young People Programme that LFF run. Many young people do this whilst waiting for the police/CPS to make their decisions. The young person would work with a trained practitoner on a one to one basis over a number of sessions.
When does your son turn 18? Was it the police that told you it would be dealt with at a youth court? I can confirm once your son turns 18 if he has not already attended court, it will go to the Adult court where anonymity will normally no longer apply.
Thinking of you and your son.

So sorry you have found yourselves in this awful situation. My grandson was 17 when the offence took place via snapchat! Now 20 he will be sentenced next week we too are terrified it will get into the press. His mental health has spiralled out of control and he has attempted to take his life twice I don't know how he will cope if others find out about it, at the moment only parent grandparents and siblings know..
It is not the young person fault that their case took so long to get to court and they should be given the same protection as if they went to Juvenile court.

Hi Granny1
I completely agree with what you say. I am sorry that it has taken so long for your Grandson to get to court.
Over 4 years ago there was a first hearing in the House of Commons of the Youth Courts and Sentencing Bill. It only had a first hearing and nothing has happened since. It makes me so sad that this is the case. You can find information about it online if you are interested, the speech by Rob Butler was in the House of Commons on 23 February 2021. This proposed bill would allow offences that had been committed by under 18 years to be heard in the Youth Court even if they had turned 18 (or older) by the time they had reached court, which is fair and just. I fear that it will still be a long time before this bill attempts its journey again through the House of Commons.
If you feel able to, your local MP needs to know the impact of the long delay this has had on your Grandson and your family.
