If my son ends up going to court and he is 18 by then (if it takes 3 years in total) I was under the impression he would have to attend adult court with potential press etc... which doesn't seem fair as it's not their fault how long the delays are. But I recently saw a reply on here where the 18+ was seen in youth court due to being under 18 at the time of offence. Just wondering if it's changing or based on area etc...Has anyone else heard of this being honoured despite now being 18+ ?

I think it depends on the date of their first court appearence. Everyone starts at the magistrates then get referred to youth court if they are under 18 on the day, or if over 18 on the day they are treated as an adult.

But the judge will still take into account the fact that the offence was committed when under 18.
