Welcome to our new topic folder!

Hello and welcome to all our members who are navigating the complexities of life after sentencing.

We understand that this stage can be incredibly challenging, both emotionally and practically. The new ‘Life after sentencing’ folder is dedicated to supporting those who are moving forward beyond the criminal justice process. After going through the emotional and stressful part; life after sentencing may present new challenges arising in different ways—whether it’s dealing with the restrictions of the Sex Offender Register (SOR), a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), probation, or the emotional impact of having a loved one in prison. Your loved one may not have received a sentence, but instead received a caution or ‘no further action’ - and you may have some questions about this or want some support to move forward.

Whether you’re dealing with the practical realities of probation, the emotional toll of long-term consequences, or the adjustment to life after the criminal justice processes, this space is here to help.

The long-term impact on you and your family, as well as managing ongoing restrictions and legal obligations, can bring about feelings of uncertainty. Here, you’ll find a space that understands the impact and can offer advice, empathy, and support as you face what comes next.

This is a safe and supportive space where you can share your feelings, ask questions, and receive guidance from others who are going through similar situations. There’s no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with, but we hope that by connecting with others here, you’ll find comfort and understanding as you navigate the ongoing journey of moving forward.

It’s important to remember that looking after yourself during this period is essential. Life after sentencing can bring its own unique set of challenges, and taking care of your emotional and physical well-being is a vital part of managing any difficult feelings. Whether it’s seeking professional support, engaging in self-care practices, or simply finding a moment to take a breath, make sure to prioritise your own needs. You can find some self-care advice on our website, or by clicking here. Additionally, you can find a page on our forum with a list of sources of support and advice, here.

For those who have been through this process and are further along in the journey, we encourage you to offer your insights and support to those who may be just starting to navigate life after sentencing or are in need for support to help them move forward. Your experiences can provide comfort and reassurance to others.

Kind regards,

The Forum Team
