Safer Lives & Inform +

Hi All,
My son has signed up for the 5 week Safer Lives course & he starts next week. He phoned the LFF helpline himself to ask if he can do the 10 week Inform Plus course but was told no point doing both. If he wants to though can he do it after the Safer Lives course is finished?
Also I can't see anywhere how I can sign up to the Inform course?
TIA
We're in this strange lull now, 2 weeks after 'the knock' where nothing is happening & life becomes more normal or new normal. It will carry on like this, it's almost as if nothing has happened & then one day, any day, life will be hell again when the results are back from the devices search.

Hi, you can ask to do the Inform course via the live chat, helpline or email.
Be careful about paying alot of money for courses. Check in the forum whether attending makes any difference to the end result with sentencing and probation, if that's the reason for doing any of the courses apart from Inform.

Hi, i called the helpline the day after the knock and arrest, and they told me about the Inform course, so I registered with my details. A couple of weeks later I had a Teams meeting with a counsellor involved with the course. We talked about my situation and what the course involves. That was almost 6 weeks ago, and according to other people's experiences, it could be 3 months till there's a place for me. I can't wait to do it so I understand more.
I totally get what you mean by the lull. Its such a strange, confusing place to be in, but I'm getting used to this new 'normal'. My husband has his first bail review at the end of April, so I'm expecting a peak of anger, sadness and all the other emotions. Plus it's likely his bail will get renewed for another 3 months. I hate this limbo, but it does give space to try and process everything.
My husband has done some online modules through Stop It Now, and is talking to a counsellor through them. He's also going to do the Inform Plus course. Rather than just doing it to lessen his sentence, his main reasons are to try and understand why his porn habit led to downloading and viewing IIOC, to give him the tools to prevent him doing it again, be a better person, and to prove to me that he's doing the work on himself to help save our marriage (the jury is out on that one though - pardon the pun!)xx

How are you doing Cedar ? Your initial post really resonated with me . You are right about the lull in things and then everything comes back in huge waves . How is your son doing !
Thank you for asking. He is feeling much better & is doing OK actually. In a way too ok, as it's almost if 2 weeks ago was a bad dream & it's all over, if that makes sense. Like it never happened. He has made many changes to his life, so he is happier, if only this could have been done without 'the knock'. He's opened up the areas that were buried so deeply in his life, the main one, telling us about his sexual abuse, age 15. He would never have told us unless we had asked the question directly. He's starting the Safer Lives course & has phoned LFF himself.
I read the book reccomended on here, Tony Attwood 'Autism Spectrum, Sexuality & The Law'. I thought I'd highlight any words, phrases or sections that resonated with me, and most of the book is highlighted in yellow now! Particularly Nick Dubins account of his childhood, teen years & how all that directly led to the actions he was arrested for. But how do you impart this understanding of how ASD led my son here & the police who just see a criminal & want someone punished & sent to prison?
So the wait now is to hear from the NCA with their report, however long that takes.

Dear Poppet,
We wanted to contribute to this thread as we noticed you mentioning our current waiting times for the Inform programme. We’ve seen a significant increase in the number of self-referrals coming through since Christmas, which has unfortunately contributed to a longer-than-usual wait period of a few months. We completely understand how frustrating and difficult it can be to wait during such a challenging time, and we want to assure anyone who may be interested in enrolling for our programmes that we’re doing everything we can to meet the growing demand.
Our team is actively looking into ways to reduce the wait time between the initial appointment and the start date of our programmes. We are committed to improving the process so that we can offer support as quickly as possible to those who need it.
In the meantime, please know that you are not alone, and we are here to support you. If anyone have any questions about the programme or would like an update on their place on the waiting list, don’t hesitate to reach out. Please know that the programme is free to access, and self-referrals can be made via the helpline on 0808 1000 900 or chat service. You can find more information about our Inform programme here.
Kind regards,
The Forum Team
