So we are at 8 months since the knock for my 16yr old son

Police finally responded and apparently nothing to do with school. This just makes me worry more. We know Snapchat he reported something that violated but I don't understand Snapchat and whether this would be something someone sent him.

Apparently the devices were due to start being checked 28th March. There are only 3 devices a iPhone, Xbox and a tablet.

Does anyone know process of when checked. Is it long or fairly quick.

Hi, I'm not sure what others were informed, so can only confirm what we were advised of. The police told us there would be a way before the devices could be downloaded and once this process was completed it was for the police to go through and check the data. It was the process of analysis we were told was timely xx

They've had our devices since end of last July so 8 months. When I messaged the OIC today for an update he said they were down for checking on 28th but he hadn't heard anything but was going to email them to try get update. It's just sent me into panic mode because we thought it related to school and they are saying not. So it's fear of the unknown.

It's all so stressful isn't it? No news is stressful, news is stressful. Can't really win

Re the processing - i think it depends on the area you're in - the process/resource varies force to force. Once downloaded a report is sent to the OiC to go through (I think). Then I guess they decide how to proceed from there. Until that's done I guess it's possibly all still very unclear from all sides, apart from whatever specific thing triggered the knock itself - the police must have been notified somehow/have something they expect to find? Have they said what? That seems to vary from what I've read here anyway - as in how much they share about what they know or suspect.

Have the police told you how they came to be notified of the image/whatever it was they're investigating? If not, do you have a solicitor? Is it something they could try and get clarification for you on?

Has your son been able to talk to you about any of it? I know it's difficult, it's not an easy conversation. We're really struggling with this. Has your son said what/why he reported things to Snapchat? Might give you something to go on, but that being said, until you have the final report, you won't necessarily know what you're dealing with.

I'm just generally trying to have gentle hope for the best, and gently prepare for the worst. We're similar in that until the devices have been checked and analysed, we're not entirely sure what's happened or what will happen next. It's a horrible state of limbo, you can't really prepare because you don't really know what's coming.

Thinking of you and your family x

Hi Starr

All we got told on day of knock was my sons user name and our IP address were linked to IIOC.

We picked up bits that made us think last October which is when he started using Snapchat. They also said if the image isn't found on the device that's end of it. Plus kept saying a child is under 18.

They never searched property and only took his devices. They asked if we sent old phones back and I said yes.

My son dad have his email address hacked and I didn't realise until recently the new email address he used same password.

On Snapchat he's reported 3 things and one was accepted as a violation. I asked him what it was and he said he thought it was IIOC. But said couldn't recall exactly what it was.

Police say they can't tell us more. Solicitor said case of waiting. I asked this week if related to school and they said no.

Tried talking to my son and he breaksdown and says he doesn't know. It's affecting his mental health and college. He's always been what you would call a prude. Always done right thing been scared to get in trouble. All he does now is play on PlayStation. Doesn't have friends away from college because always struggled making friends. A very quiet anxious child. On day of arrest police said he looked terrified. Still won't sleep in his bed.

Now I have every Internet restriction in place which he doesn't complain about.

The waiting and the unknown is torture.
