Hi everyone x

Just wanted to share something that’s been weighing on me for a while and get some thoughts from people who might’ve been through similar or just have some insight.

Back in late 2021, my ex-partner (we were together for 13 years) was arrested. Police turned up at around 10am, read him his rights, seized his devices, and took him into custody.

He has type 1 diabetes and was held from 11am until about 4am the next day—no access to insulin or food during that entire time. When he got home, he looked absolutely wrecked—starving but with high blood sugar from missing his medication.

He ended up doing a police interview about a Category B moving image found on his phone. The duty solicitor told him to go for a no comment interview.

Social services got involved the next day, put a short-term plan in place, and then closed the case a week later.

He was put on bail conditions. Privately, he told me he genuinely didn’t know how that image ended up on his phone. At the time, I told him I wouldn’t believe anything until we heard from the police—but I still made sure his basic needs were met.

Later, when police tried to extend his bail, the application got rejected and he was released under investigation.

From August 2021 to March 2025, there were no updates. His solicitor kept chasing, but nothing. Then out of nowhere, he gets a knock on the door from a new officer on the case, asking him to come in for a voluntary interview—which he did.

Apparently, the image in question was a screen recording of an Instagram video call involving a child, taken from another device. The account used for the call was one of those “publicly accessible” Instagram accounts that he logged into to boost likes on his own posts—he used to make money from Instagram and said this was a tactic to push his content in the algorithm.

He swears he never used his phone for anything sexual, let alone involving a child, and that all his browsing history and online activity was on his laptop—which, shockingly, the police never even sent off for analysis. They actually offered to return it without checking it?!

During the interview (with solicitor present), he denied making the call and explained how he ended up logged into that account. Police confirmed that the call was made from a different device. He even showed me the forum where he found the account—a site where people just share login info to random IG accounts.

They checked his search history and other bits, and apparently found nothing else incriminating—just that one video, which is obviously still very serious.

What do you all think? If he’s genuinely telling the truth, what could he be looking at here? I’m trying to stay neutral and not paint someone guilty who might actually be innocent.

He’s not been the same since. Cut off loads of people. Constantly paranoid. Keeps saying “someone’s trying to ruin my life.”

Would really appreciate any thoughts or similar experiences. Thanks for reading if you got this far x

The CPS would need to show he was likely to have known about the existence of the video, before he logged in to the account.

If he only logged in once, then it is more likely he was unaware. If he logged in a number of times after the date the video was uploaded, then that creates more doubt. The forensic report should have all the details.

Hi Edel,

here's the issue, this information was not traceable because the offence happened on a "different device" (he showed me the disclosure that was sent to him)

another issue is that the account has since been deleted by Instagram and there's nothing traceable about it. Instagram unfortunately doesn't record who made the initial call as it's all encrypted

the only fact I know is that the account doesn't belong to him and that he had access to it since it was publicly available (I found the website he found the account)

This is a complicated case for the police because they delayed this case too long to a point where they can't even get some data from Instagram

im worried that he is found to be innocent but only because police don't have enough info which will raise doubt for me. I need him to be really be found innocent if he's innocent

the phone after the forensics analysis only found a screen recording of the video call that happened on a different device not the device police seized x
