Knock 31st July

Person: 16yr old son

All we know: IP address linked to my son's email

Initially my son was on bail for 6 months but just after Xmas that changed to RUI

Apparently his devices which was an old tablet, xbox and iPhone were due to be checked 28th March. We are still awaiting update.

My son states he doesn't know what this relates to and we believe him due to type of child he is and we can always tell when he's telling truth. If anything we believe he's come across something unintentionally. Another reason is we have emails where he's reported items to snapchat. One of these was accepted to be a violation and he told us it was iioc. We also have thing where his email was hacked and random messages coming through. His new email is very similar and I hadn't realised he'd used same password.

My son is intelligent but nieve.

Even now it breaks my heart fact on the day of arrest he was placed in a cell and reading guidelines that should not have happened. The negative impact on his mental health and his A levels is huge. Just need this over.

I have started regularly contacting OIC for updates. They won't say what links my son exactly but reading between the lines it is Snapchat.

This forum as been very supportive. I hope more families will use this particular forum that is specific to children x

Hello Ajustcopingparent

Thank you for starting the ball rolling on this new category. I remember how awful the long waiting in limbo was, so I hope you hear soon as to what the next stage maybe.

The young person in our family received 'the knock' nearly five years ago now ( he was 16 at the time, like your son) and it took just over a year before he went to Youth Court in June 21.

I do feel these long waits are really unacceptable as it really has an impact of the young person's mental wellbeing.

I agree with you that it is really positive that this new category exists, a dedicated space for sharing of experiences and knowledge to help and support each other and to support our young family members through this journey.

I am thinking of you and your son.

Thank you Alison20

I agree the system needs reviewing and changes made. But problem is people are too scared to speak up because of the stigma behind it all.
