Just a bit of welcome advice needed.

If Social Services were involved with a family before a custodial - do they automatically become involved again on the release from prison?

Don't want to put too much info on the forum but I'd be happy to receive a message.

Thanks all x

Yes they will unfortunately. My OH got a non custodial sentence and daughter is on a CPP due to his probabtion officer putting a referral through to Children Services. You might just need to prepare yourself that they will be in your life for a while xx

Hi,

I think it depends on if contact is wanted by the family. If ss have closed off due to the person not having contact and this is how the parents intend to keep things then it's unlikely that ss would get involved again. Probation will take details of any children that are going to have contact and put referrals in from there. If your son is just asked for names of children in the family then ss might call the parents just to make sure that the situation remains unchanged post release regarding contact xxx

Restrictions were put in place when my son was sentenced so he won't be allowed near any family children plus he will not be returning to live with us.

So I hope that will cover any concerns and they will leave us (grandparents) alone.

In my experience if there is a SHPO in place which says no contact or no unsupervised contact SS don't tend to get involved as the risks are minimised and managed through the SHPO.

They didn't in our case until we requested the ex having contact with our children but by then they were over 16 so they literally said yes as long as I supervised.
