Mental health assessments

Hi lovely people,
I hope you're all doing well? I know bank holiday and Good Friday was probably difficult for a lot of you.
I'm wondering whether any of your people had a mental health assessment prior to their sentencing?
My person is due for one soon and have just been informed that they would also like to speak to me.
Has anyone else had something similar, and if so could fill me in on what to expect? I'm also nervous about this as I don't really know if they're on a particular "side". And I'm worried about saying something that might be used against him?

Hi Ocean,
I know it's not quite the same but my Autistic Son (26yrs old) has to have Psychiatric and Psychological assessments to determine if he is fit to plead and also to assess for learning difficulties. We are still awaiting dates . I feel like we are just like sheep being herded along within a system whereby we have no control . Did your Son plead guilty?

Hi Winnie07,
My person is my partner. He struggles with his mental health as well as having learning difficulties.
He has plead guilty to get this all over with quicker.
Can I ask whether you had to speak to a professional on behalf of your son? If so how was it and do you think they are good with the support he needs?

Hi Ocean,
im so sorry you are going through this terribleness.
I think it's so wrong to feel just so desperate to get it all over with that they have to plead guilty. If my Son is deemed fit to plead then he has been told he has to plead guilty. This, I think reduces the sentence by one third. I feel like we can't contest it because we are so scared of a prison sentence for him which will be truly devastating.
he is inow in supported living with support for independent living and all the effort and hard work to try build a life will be thrown away. He will already be disadvantaged with even trying to find Voluntary Work due to DBS checks etc.. Goodness knows where he will end up as he hasn't got the resourcefulness to move on by himself. - oh how we worry !
He is still awaiting for appointments for the assessments but I fully expect that I will be needed for background information etc.. I definitely see the assessments as a good thing and hopefully the fuller picture will go in his favour.
i keep hoping I will wake up and it will have been a nightmare !
