Can anyone share any advice, tips or experience on how my OH can find work? He's always had a very specialist high level career and we're not sure where to go for advice on what to do next ....he loved his job, lived for it and was bloody good at it - there's so little support once you've been chewed up and spat out from all of this!
Hi,
looking at ban the box employers is a good starting point. It's the disclosure of an unspent conviction that my partner has struggled with. Is his career something that he could do self employed? I agree about the lack of support post sentencing and media coverage xxx

Hi there,
Sorry I don't have anything helpful, just lending some sympathy and support - my son is finding it very difficult. Like your partner, he was in a very specialist field but was recently booted off his PhD course because the Offender Manager decided to disclose to the university, even though they hadn't asked! I'm not sure how they are supposed to move on when they end up in this vacuum; I thought the goal was rehabilitation of offenders but this doesn't seem to be the case. On the Unlock website, there is information on Ban the Box, as Distressed said - but I don't know how helpful this is in more specialist fields.
Good luck!

Hi, all I can add is from our experience. My son was informed any role where there are employees under 18 will require him to disclose his situation. So the very simple job he found prior to sentencing in a coffee shop he had to leave. However the job centre put him on the CSCS course and after passing the exam he started work on a construction site the following week. Primarily because no one under 18 can work on site it is perfect

My person worked with in customer service/the public and has just quit for a warehouse job. He's still on bail but has done it preventively as there is no way he could stay in the job after being charged. He's looking forward to starting the warehouse work. The public facing job caused him lots of stress so hoping it's a good change regardless of the investigation.
A warehouse role could be an option for your partner to start with? Just so he has a job for now. And could always look into what he did before down the line when things settle a little? Good luck!

Lost and alone, do you mind me asking if your Son disclosed about the investigation to his new employer? My Son will be going on the Register, unfortunately he is already disadvantaged as he is quite badly affected by his Autism and doesn't have much initiative as it is . Goodness knows what will happen !
