Currently going through this as a partner of someone who has been arrested for communications with a minor. He very much denies it. My emotions are all over the place, as is normal I'm reading. The main thing I'm struggling with is public perception. I'm so worried about when it goes to court, how the media will publish it (address etc) leaving me vulnerable to hate in my own home. We've been together for 12 years, lived together for 9. Have no idea what to do.

So my question is what kind of media attention/ public attention did you receive? And is there anything that can be done to lessen the effects this would have on myself.

We received media attention we were images they didn't publish the amount which was 5 images they left it all to everyone's imagination, I felt like it was the end of the world but to be honest it wasn't, we had nothing said to us I returned to work the week later I had took annual leave in case it hit media I had no issues at work, my daughter returned to school the following week she is high school, one person said something but school quickly nipped it in the bud her friends were a huge support to her and has never looked back, my oh did his community pay back outwith area as he felt very vulnerable and lost his job due to media attention but he had only been in the job around 6 weeks and didn't like it, he got another job couple of weeks later and is now a team leader all within the year

Was it hard oh yes it wasn't the newspaper it was social media the keyboard warriors, we have a couple of people down the street who doesn't talk to oh now but direct neighbours have been no different to us, I came off social media immediately as didn't want to know what was said by the small minded people without the full information. If the media attention happens you will get through it but I do suggest coming off social media and ensure there is no pictures of oh on any Google searches at all.

We received media attention with the headlines calling my son a 'P'. His name, age and address were printed but other than comments on social media and gossiping among people who knew him, nothing bad happened.

Our local media seem to make sure all convictions for any type of sexual offence or domestic violence are shared across social media, they claim this is because it's in the interest of the public but in reality it's because they know it will gain attention and clicks.

I chose to come off of social media before court and have never read the comments posted, so remain oblivious of who posted what. Yes it was hard when it happened but we got through it and somehow you will too.

I'm so scared of anything coming out in the media. My husband downloaded, viewed and deleted IIOC over what, if he's telling the truth, was a 3 month period. I'm hoping that something like that isn't salacious enough to be reported on considering how appallingly common it is these days. I run an online business and have a fairly big international social media following. I cannot afford it to affect my livelihood. I'm still not sure if our marriage can continue ( leaning towards no right now), but even if we can get through this I don't know how to navigate it to protect my business. I've already said that when charges happen he'll have to move out, if he hasn't done so already. I know what people are like on social media. There's such a lack of critical thinking and people falling for clickbait and a headline.

My OH had media coverage which totally blew the lid off our plan to keep this buried. It left out a lot of the mitigation and referenced my recent health diagnosis and gave the street name.

He had pleaded guilty to 12 images a-c that weren't searched for and were part of a bulk download. The police had said they would bring me in for questioning so to avoid that he said it was him. After the case the OIC said he knew it was accidental.

The original article was on the local papers app and I believe printed in the paper. It was shared and eventually made its way to his home town a few months later which meant his family and childhood friends became aware. I didn't come off social media but I did curate my friends list and made sure my profile was private. He had shut down his as he wasn't particularly active on it anyway.

I have had to fight one set of neighbours tooth and nail as they were trying to bully us out of our home with a smear campaign and acting the victim. I did this with dignity and with evidence and I had legal and police support with this. We also had support from other neighbours, family and friends. We still have a few on the street who cast dirty looks or stare but in the main they ignore us and we quite happily ignore them.

We are 4 years post media exposure this year but I still remember that fear of it happening and thinking I would never survive it. I did survive it, I realised I was stronger than I gave myself credit for. OH secured a role in his profession 3 months after sentencing and I changed company after 12 months and have recently been promoted and I'm well respected in my area.

Media exposure is a massive worry for so many but I feel it isn't as regular as it used to be or maybe thats because I dont look for it. Sadly these cases are more prolific than any joe public realise so I think the media probably only report on the juicy stories that will attract more clicks.
