Signing at the police station

Good evening just a quick question does your person have to sign every week at the police station ? Is it a normal thing in this situation.
Hi Absolutely Heartbroken
It sounds like your son has conditional bail if he has to report weekly to the police station. It did not apply to our young person but I think it is down to the individual police force whether to apply unconditional or conditional bail. No two cases will be the same!

Our son has not been back to the police station since the day of the knock. He initially had bail conditions for 3 months and we got phone call to say it was being extended to 6 months. Then at 6 months we had phone call to state it was being amended to just being under investigation.
Thank you ladies, he does have conditions supervised with anyone under 18 and not allowed to live at our home addresse. I just wondered why the signing bit of it having to travel every week for literally 2 min to sign.
If he is not on bail, but he is on the SOR, then weekly signing is for people deemed as being homeless.
Hi Edel 2020
He is on bail he's not on sor he hasn't been charged yet and he's not homeless?

There are no fixed rules on bail conditions. It is up to the police to decide what is necessary and that can vary between police forces and even between different custody sergeants.
Have the police given any rational for weekly attendance?
If you have appointed a solicitor you could ask them to clarify and/or challenge the bail conditions. Whilst bail conditions can vary person to person they must be necessary and proportional to the situation and I think a good solicitor would argue the weekly attendance is neither.
