After having the 'knock ' back in Oct 24 we have heard nothing other than emails to renew bail. Now on the 3rd one , then today my husband said the police arrived on the doorstep asking to come in. They said it was a bail check and were checking how he was and making sure no sign of children living in the house. He said they said his devices were submitted 2 months ago, again he didn't ask what this meant so does it mean they are now checking them ? and has anyone else had a visit like this.

Our OIC has called round randomly twice - once we were home and once we were out - OH spoke to him on the ring doorbell to say we would be home later on but he didn't come back.

Knock was August 24 - calls were January and March 25. X

My person got an impromptu visit from the OIC too. It was to deliver papers that my person had to sign for bail extension to be sent to magistrates. We're through it all now but each step along the way stirs up lots of different feelings. They do keep people guessing what the next move is x

This is interesting to read as my husband (we have an offending son) is a retired PC and when we were in the midst of bail proceedings (pre being changed to RUI) our son was living with us and after he asked a few questions about his bail conditions because he was scared of doing something wrong, his OIC told him he was obviously going to break his conditions and that therefore she had told our local police force to do bail checks on our house. We now know she likes to sound self-important so made it sound like it was something very serious and at her command, but my husband said that he often had to carry out bail checks as part of his everyday job. If they were short of something to do they would be sent off on bail checks. However the difference was that it was always to make sure someone was at their address eg if they were on a curfew. They never went inside, just asked for the person by name at the door, saw they were there and left. He says they weren't allowed to go into the premises. To check that there are no children living at the house would need a search of the premises and that isn't something the police can do without a warrant. So I'm not sure what the OICs in your various cases are doing unless they are delivering some paperwork or arresting someone. They are supposed to do a welfare check so it could be that although I'd love to know how often that gets done. In our son's case the OIC would open any call with 'How are you' and our son would say 'fine'. And that was that, box ticked. I think this just shows the arbitrary nature of how the police work. and my gut feeling would be that the main reason to make a house call was to make it look as if there was some action regarding the investigation whereas the likelihood is that there has been none. Yes, I'm cynical.
