I've been so focused on the legal stuff (charge, imminent hearing date) and likely return of our ghastly social worker (who was extremely critical of me telling my children why their dad had been arrested), I'd forgotten about the whole 'what about his bloody job' panic.
Anyone's person kept their job?
Husband is an office based engineer, literally no contact with the public or even customers. All on computers.
He lost his job of 15 years the day of arrest, as all his work computing equipment was seized and OIC contacted his employer seeking master passwords. Got another job where contract doesn't require him to disclose. So I'm guessing the risks are (a) press leading to employer finding out and (b) probation office deciding to disclose?
Has anyone survived conviction, job intact?

Yes.OH kept their job no problem. Biggest factor was that there was no media coverage. If there had been it would've been gross misconduct/bringing the company into disrepute.

Office based, no children anywhere near, so no need to disclose. Was also able to demonstrate that company had its own software monitoring systems, so no need to install anything onto work devices.

Fingers crossed for you x

I think if you're in a job where there's no need to disclose and the media don't get a hold of it fingers crossed jobs aren't lost. My person wasn't in that position unfortunately so was dismissed after about three months. As it was on live streamed on Facebook the organisation who he worked for was mentioned and his job required and enhanced DBS.

Yes sadly it will all hinge on the press. The judge in our case suspended the sentence so he could keep his job and home, it hit the press and he lost everything! (I know LLF are working on media guidelines in the future, but for us it's too late). Gross misconduct for bringing the company in to disrepute - he didn't work with children and had worked all his life to be in the career he was in. Small knit 'work community' so he'll never be able to return. X

I'm so sorry ladies. I fear that's coming too. Was press after plea or sentencing?

Hi LisaMargeMaggie,

This information is for a different country so may not apply. Here, engineers are given the right to practice by a professional association. When they become aware that a member has committed a crime, there is a review process. Recently they reported on a member who was convicted of an online offense and had their right to practice suspended for 7 years at which time they need to reapply and prove good character. The reason given was that engineers are supposed to have a code of ethics and these are seen as crimes of questionable morals. Depending on if he has a professional association and what their rules are, he may be required to report that he has been charged or convicted of a crime.

Hi prairie, thanks for your reply. I was intentionally vague about my husband's job - he's a type of engineer but not a chartered professional - he's a software engineer. So there wouldn't be a formal process to face. And tbh having met so many of his colleagues over the 22 years we were together, I'm reasonably confident there's a lot of porn addicts among them. Shy socially awkward computer-based men.

I'm so glad that won't be a concern for you! My husband is also in the nerdy computer group as well, but not licensed by any governing body. Sometimes I hope one day he will find work in his field again but I also wonder if it might be better for him to work away from a computer. I guess we will see.
