An interesting article about assessing risk of contact abuse/reoffending after being caught 'making' IIOC. I hadn't realised that the numbers of reoffending after 'the knock' were so low. (This is a fairly OLD essay too - written 2014).
'Severity and Risk are not the same when it comes to IIOC'
(PS - I wrecked my phone walking out in a deluge last week - so can't access Whatsapp at moment - miss you all!)

Interesting article but makes me feel even more devastated that this is my husband's second offence :'(
Very interesting article and some of it reiterates what my partner has said as to how he got caught up with it. He got addicted to porn but was wanting to get more shocked (curiosity), liked to collect (he said he didn't view many of the them) and he would use the collection to pose as others (catfish,) to act out fantasies to escape the real world. He is not a contact risk. He has never gone beyond online (of course I wish he never ever crossed the line in the first place).
But since the knock he has not offended since because as he describes it he has now had the therapy to help him snap out of using this behaviour as escapism and he now acknowledges the harm he has caused. He has lost nearly everything. His wife and kids (working progress to get some sort of meaningful contact). He hit rock bottom. I think he now has the tools and support to not reoffend. Thankfully he has friends and family and myself he are rooting for him to never offend again and be the better person.

Thankyou for this. It corresponds to what I know about my ex partners reasons for accessing this stuff. It’s a shame the media has no interest in understanding the issue and focuses on vilifying and destroying people’s lives instead. Like Most of the general public I’d say, I presumed that anyone who viewed iioc online were sick child molesters . The truth is so much more complicated isn’t it.

Thanks useful article
Hey TutleyMutley,
I'm new to the forum so still trawling through threads to try and make sense of this situation.
I wanted to say thank you for sharing. One of the things that is helping just now is reading stories or articles about this which are written factually, or at least calmly. Anything I would have seen about this topic before the knock would be in a newspaper, with things that appeared to be fact (Sometimes misleading) and in a very angry and attacking tone. Whilst the whole thing is still so very very wrong and I hate that I'm having to get my head round it, thank you for adding some balance and insight.
Take care x
