The first few days of remand
Notifications OFF
Hi,
I've never posted on here before because I told myself if I ever did, it would mean that all of this is real. I can't explain how much of a godsend it's been to me over the past nearly 3 years though.
To cut a very long story short, my person was remanded on Thursday night to a prison. The solicitor rung me to tell me where he was but nothing else other than he was remanded and refused bail because he had broken one of his requirements. The requirement broken was he opened a new bank and didn't realise he had to tell them yet, he (and I) thought he didn't need to tell them until he was sentenced at Crown. Stupid of us I know but we just genuinely believed we didn't need too yet and didn't give it another thought to be honest because the VISOR team had said before when his phone broke and he informed them he'd need to get a new phone that it didn't matter it only needed to be notified when he was sentenced so we thought that counted for everything, although we always told them if we went away for the weekend etc purely through fear of getting into trouble.
I've been trying to contact the prison who told me to go to the custody desk at the police station he was in to find out his prison number, I questioned why the police would have it but they were adamant that the police would be able to give it too me. I went to the custody desk, they told me to go to the main reception in the police station because they said I'd get more joy there. I went to the reception desk and they looked at me like I was alien and said no we don't have the prison numbers, that's all the prison nothing to do with us. I have tried to contact the solicitor but obviously now it's the weekend.
On Thursday night the prison told me he would get a 2 minute phone call to basically just give me the prison number but I never got a phone call. It's now Sunday and I'm going out of my mind.
I know where he is and I know he's safe but the logistics of everything is making me go crazy.
One of our closest family friends is an ex screw (left last year so not too long ago) and he has told me everything, his friend who is also a screw at the prison he's in has told me how things work there (he hasn't told me anything about him obviously).
I was told by one woman at the prison that my person would have to know my number off by heart otherwise he wouldn't be able to contact me. Then another 2 women at the prison told me no that's not the case, he'll be allowed to quickly look on his phone with a prison officer with him to note down the numbers. I was fairly confident he knew my number by heart as he kept repeating it too me on the phone when he was in the custody cell and the woman at the prison said he might well have already put my number on his call list but because it's the weekend and staffing issues, he might just not have got the time to call yet.
So I don't know if he's allowed to search my number or if he knows it and is waiting or what.
I'm going to contact the solicitor tomorrow to try and help me, but I'm so anxious about not knowing if he's done his visiting lists or his phone call lists, the not knowing is driving me mad.
Also even if I get his prison number from the solicitor, what do I do with that? I know I can top his money up but how will he know I've done that if I can't call him? And I was going to book a visit ASAP but how do I know if he's sorted out his visiting lists?
Sorry for the questions, I just don't know what else to do.
Im grateful for any help,
thank you x

Hi Hmama,
I noticed you had posted something over the weekend as the title was there in the forum, but I knew it wouldn't be readable until it was looked at by a moderator today, Monday. I can well imagine the flap you must be in and also how unfair about the reasons why your person is now on remand. I'm so sorry you've been passed from pillar to post. Just shows how useless some of these people are. I can't actually answer your questions but I'm sure someone with experience will do so very soon. I do know though that you would get lots of advice via the Unlock website which is devoted to all things prison related. Hopefully by now you will have heard from someone with some news, and hopefully that will have been your person. Sending a big hug your way and hope things resolve themselves as quickly as possible.
