Sorry for quite a bit of posts lately, I just want to make sure we have everything correct as don't want anymore trouble over technicalities!!

My son has signed the SOR, no shpo yet as assume that comes when being sentenced!

What can/can't he do? He did ask at the police station if he was allowed to visit us as we have 15 & 17 year olds and they took their details and said so long as its no more that 12 hours. I assumed the SOR came with humongous restrictions but reading through it it seems just a list of notifications.

Does he have to declared to everyone he visits that has minors that he is subjected to this register?

Is he allowed to stroll through town centre where there is normally hoards of kids?

Does he have to leave a local shop if school kids come in??

It almost seems anticlimactic, we have built ourselves up to go late night shopping, use gym at night, avoid mcdonalds, etc. Is this nessacary??

A lot depends on the police supervising officer and how strict they are. As a general rule, he should avoid places where children gather, just to prevent false accusations, not because it is forbidden by the law.

At the same time, its obviously not possible to avoid children completely. But as long he does not start a conversation with a teenager for example, he should be able to live a fairly normal life.

The police might have an issue if he visits a house where a child lives, or if a child visits him. They might insist that he discloses his conviction to the parents. People on the SOR tend to avoid social events for that reason. Family gatherings should still be ok, provided that the family know about the conviction.
