Will he get a job?!

My person was sentenced in 2019 and got a SHPO for ten years. Thankfully he did get employment post sentence because they never asked for conviction history.
I have changed jobs, which is mostly based hours away. I want to move closer to the office as I am done with WFH.
But we are finding it hard to find a role for him for companies that do not ask about convictions. He is a civil engineer, and there are plenty of roles out there. He has a great interview today, but the dreaded conviction question has come up.
Has anyone known of offenders getting professional jobs without the need to disclose, or did disclose but was hired anyway?
I have seen online that companies should consider the seriousness and time since the offence. I feel, due to the nature of the crime, that he would also be turned down on the grounds of seriousness.

My OH is finding job hunting a bit soul destroying at the minute. Our media article is still floating around on the internet and he hasn't changed his name so we think that's definitely a barrier. He has a temp to perm job in a factory but it barely covers his bills so we're unsure how sustainable it is. He used to earn more doing one overtime job than he does now in a week, so the adjustment is hard. He'll keep plugging away, but he also keeps coming up against the conviction question and as you say people don't look at these types of offences proportionally. I'm not sure I'm helping here, but wanted to know you're not on your own. I wish you both all the best xxx
My son finding it hard to get a job
He dud manage to get one,but then some one recognised him from papers
And informed his employer, therefore he was dismissed
His probation officer as found a company, that helps find jobs and training
Also there doing a disclosure letter
,so he can give them that,if asked any questions
He also struggles with autsim

Thanks both for your feedback. My person doesn't have probation support anymore, and his police officer is hard to reach.
We did find out tho that law changed in 2023 which means his conviction is spent within a few months! So I'm more hopeful. The SOR and SHOPO will show on a Dbs for another 5 years tho, maybe forever....
I am worried that when we move he gets an officer that makes my person disclose to a new employer. The police on our current area don't force him to, but I have heard some areas go above and beyond....
I maybe offer my dream job but I can't afford to be the bread winner. Wish I had a crystal ball

Sorry to jump in with potential bad news but the conviction is spent once sor and SHPO are finished even with the change in the law.

Just to clarify, a conviction remains until any ancillary order expires ie. if a SHPO is in place, the conviction will not be spent until the SHPO expires. So if a SHPO, SOPO or similar order is in place for 5 years the conviction will not be spent for the 5 years. However, just being on the SOR does NOT stop a conviction being spent.
