CPS - how does it all work?
Notifications OFF
I'm so confused. It's not going how I expected - a different officer just emailed to say case with CPS. The tone was pretty much 'I'm not sure why you're chasing, it's already with CPS as you know' - but I didn't know.
And we have no details - I don't know what the potential charges are, when it went or anything really. Should we have been informed of the investigation outcome?
Does this mean youth out of court options are out?
What do we do now? It's so lacking in transparency!
Can I contact the CPS directly?

Hello Starr
It sounds like it has gone to the CPS for a decision to charge or not.
I believe you can ring the CPS directly and ask to speak to the department that deals with 'Youth Crime' if your son is under 18. You could enquire how long they are taking to currently make a decision.
It maybe that CPS don't even have your son's case yet, as what the police say and what is actually the case may not be the same thing. I am only saying this as we were told at one stage it had all gone to CPS, only to find out later it was still sitting on someone's desk at the police station! You will need to contact the CPS for your region which I think you will find on the CPS website.
If it has gone to CPS the timescales for making a decision on whether to charge or not are normally quicker for youths, so hopefully that is a positive.

Hi Starr,
Has your son had another interview? I thought the interview would happen after the devices come back and then to cps for decision...
Hope you're all okay xx

No, I assumed we'd have another interview but it didn't happen - although it has only been mentioned in passing (I think - I can't find anything about it now) as an optional thing. Solicitor had said it wouldnt be worth doing anyway. Now it sounds like it's all moved on and I feel even more in the dark.
It's so weird dealing with the police - usually as a parent you're kept informed, and if not, it's ok (expected even) that you'll be involved/ask/be consulted. Suddenly you're kind of irrelevant and it's weird. I don't know how to make sense of it or what to do.
I've only ever dealt with the police in a professional capacity so that's also strange.
How can it be that I still have no idea what's actually apparently happened or what possible charges might or might not be?! For my child...?! It just doesn't make sense.

Star ... can't you escalate this? This doesn't sound right when he's a child that you don't know what charges ect? My husband OIC has kept us up to date with what is being sent to the CPS/ possible charges ect. I would try and give them a ring and ask someone to call you?
