Hi guys I know I've read it on here so many times but it's been like 18 months now since the knock and I was told that people that live in Dorset usually get their devices checked within eight months so I was just kind of wondering if anybody out there lives in Dorset and how long it takes before they get to the next stage

I I am wondering whether to contact the police and ask them what's going on but I'm a bit worried too in case my OH finds out. I just feel but I really need to move forward from the situation. it just feels like we're in limbo I can't move on or do anything. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you all in advance xx

Hi, I think, unless your person has given specific permission to the Police/solicitor etc, you won't be updated/informed, so asking the Police won't get you anywhere due to data protection. Also, in my experience, the enquiry would either be ignored or they would say something really vague in the hope you don't bother them again. Amusingly , they seem to like "3 months". Its always "3 months". Everything will be done or you'll hear in "3 months" but it never is! "Our " case took 3 years and 3 months and the only part of the process that we managed to put a bit of pressure on was after the case had been adjourned 6 times for sentencing at Crown Court. The Solicitor wrote to the Judge complaining that another adjournment would be unfair and the Judge agreed. All of the other stages, examination of devices, waiting on the CPS will take as long as it takes, unfortunately. I know it's hard, extremely hard and frustrating. What I used to tell myself was that when sentencing finally came, it was the beginning of the end and I very much feel like that after the ex was sent to prison two weeks ago. The "end" is almost in sight. Wishing you the very best and really hope for a swift resolution for you. X

Hi Stan Cat

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... It takes forever. They don't rush and won't be helpful to you with timings at all. I still don't know if they wish to add some more punishment for you, it's how long the process takes or if we are just below notice and consideration.

3 years for us in Kent, from knock to sentencing. I hate the saying but, it takes as long as it takes.

Yes, 3 months will be the answer you get if you do reach out. It's always 3 months and as someone already said, it NEVER bloody is!

We all understand the feeling of limbo. Not knowing up from down or what is real and what is a lie. The inability to be able to plan or even think about the future. It's as if you are just stuck, that's how it was for me anyway. Stuck in a really terrible nightmare. My heart really does go out to you. I would not wish this ordeal on anyone.

I hope they speed up the whole thing for you.

Take care of yourself x

Thank you both for your replies. It's just so frustrating not being able to move on or to decide what's best to do next. I really do wish they were just hurry up and just put us out of our misery. at very least step up to the next stage and re-interview him so we know whether he is going to be charged or not .
