Holidays with Tui
Notifications OFF
We received a phone call today from the police officer involved in my husbands conviction for a historic offence. All police forces have received an email today from TUI that they are banning all SO from any future bookings with them and also cancelling any current ones are to contact them to cancel holidays as they will not be allowed to fly.
We spoke to an agent with TUI who confirmed that this is correct and there T&Cs have been changed to state this.
We have a family holiday booked in less than 3 weeks which we will get a full refund on but how on earth have they decided to do this right in the middle of the summer season when people will have holidays booked and would be their busiest time of year too.
We are absolutely gutted of course and looking to rebook ASAP with another operator. Jet2 cp firmed today they have a "no judgement" booking policy so lets hope they can help us.
My opinion is they really have shot theirs elf in the foot with this as how many booking will have to be cancelled across the country and people will look elsewhere for the future won't they.
Just thought this might be useful for member to know and check their bookings!

Im so sorry to hear that, in this horrible situation a holiday is something to look forward to!
Thanks for posting also, as although I dont have any future bookings, I always use TUI so pleased to know this now. Hope Jet2 can help you, fingers crossed!

Prior to this shit show we've always travelled with TUI
Nothing booked but good to know to look elsewhere if we do decide to go abroad in future.

We have has the same call too , we are due to fly in 4 weeks . Our son is the offender . Have TUI refunded you the whole holiday ? We called them yesterday and they said they would have to refer it to another department who will contact us within 72 hours and we are still waiting for an answer
I've tried to find online what it says but I cant find it. Is it just anyone that has been charged at all or are spent convictions okay? If anyone can point me in the direction of the specific Ts&Cs please
It's in the a-z section of the website terms and conditions under safeguarding
Oh my word, I think I'd have thrown up on the spot! Is it a definite full refund?
We are with Jet2 al- I really hope they don't change theirs too

I'm literally shaking whilst writing this and feeling incredibly sick!
We have a holiday booked for November with Tui, we haven't heard anything from them, nothing on their app.
My person comes off the register in September, does this apply to everyone who has been or still is on the register.
It's not like you get asked at the time of booking and not something you blurt out ..
Any info would be greatly appreciated, I'm absolutely devastated.

Tui state
we dont knowingly allow anyone to travel who is a convicted child sex offender, on the sor and or has a sexual risk order or child abduction notice. It goes on to state that this needs to be declared at the time of the bookings.
I could not copy and paste, but google tui terms and conditions. Click on booking and in small red type it says a-z. Click this and look under S.
Hope this helps.
I fully understand the nature of this conviction and the optics for the companies. But what gets me is that it is not for all convictions. So a thief or someone who murders another person is fine. Though this does not affect me, my OH will not travel anywhere, it just seems with this conviction gets mentioned all the time. And as we all know there are many layers to this conviction. But no one is interested.

We have had confirmation today from TUI . We were given a choice of removing our son from the booking or cancelling the whole booking with a full refund . So we have cancelled the booking will take the refund and rebook with jet2
How do tui know your person is on the SOR? And is it for people currently on the register or also for people who's convictions are spent also?
I dont understand because at no point in the booking process are you asked about convictions

My person spoke to customer services at Tui yesterday and the person he spoke to didn't even no the Terms & conditions have changed.
We booked our holiday in March, only in June were they updated. And tbh if it wasn't for this page we would of been none the wiser...

If he comes off the register before you go Mata, then TUI will never know and you don't need to worry about it - make sure you don't disclose to them of course
So on the website the ts and Cs make it VERY hard to find the information.
Before you get to it it states that the Ts and Cs are to be used from 01.06.2020. This was 5 years ago.
We went away in May 2024 with TUI. We have booked the exact same hotel for next year as we knew we would be okay.
I've just been on the online chat and they said they can't find in their Ts and Cs and I need to contact them again as there were no managers available.
I have screenshot them saying in the chat that they can't find it and we would be safe to go on our holiday, for our own paper trail and records in case it's needed.
Their staff not knowing their own info is ridiculous. I wonder how long this lasts when they realise there are A LOT of people subject to SOR requirements. Will update when I know more about our booking.
What a palava!!!!

@daisychain all PPU offices have been notified by TUI of the change so when the offender notifies the police of the holiday the PPU officer will then be duty bound to inform TUI
Okay I understand, so all these people that have received communications its not because they have specifically sent it to people that are on the SOR, they have sent it generically to everyone that has a holiday booked with them?
We arent at the point of being charged yet so I dont know the process properly, I just assumed when you go away you notify the police of where you are going, didnt realise you would say all flight details etc but suppose that would make sense so they could find you if needed

As the original poster of this.....
Regarding cancelling a holiday with TUI, the email to cancel and refund your holiday is retailexceptions@tui.co.uk.
We received a full refund 48hrs after the email and we have now booked another holiday that same day as our travel day was the 19th July with Jet2 who when spoken to have a "no judgement" booking policy.
We have just been down to our police station to confirm the cancellation and given the new holiday details. Phew!!!
I do feel thi is extremely unfair as we all know only too well that not everyone fits into the same box do they?
For example my OH conviction is historical from 30 years ago and is a touching offence (over clothes) of a 15 year old when they were 19 and consensual but because of other circumatances (a story in itself) and part of a much bigger case a conviction was made in the last couple of years. My OH and I have been together for 28 years of this and have teenaged children and OH has no conditions or SHPO in place.
A person I know, commented a few days ago "well its right, I wouldn't was a pe3do sitting next to my grandchild on a plane", to which I replied "well what about all the ones who have not been caught, you don't know about those ones" to which she replied "you are right and apologised".
It isn't good how TUI have not released this information more widely than a call from the police to contact all SO's. It will put quite a few people's holiday's in jeapodry as what happens at the airport, do they get refused and no chance of a refund because TUI have changed the goalposts and nobody knows this?
TUI are very shortsighted here and they will be the ones in the long term who suffer here won't they as people are entitled to a holiday and book elsewhere.

Just an update from us on our cancellation process.
I got a useless person on the online chat who blatantly refused to escalate our situation to a manager. I sent one message asking for the case to be immediately escalated and then after a lot of back and forth whereby they outright ignored the questions I was asking they asked if I wanted the case to be escalated to a manager (all been screenshotted for evidence).
The useless individual I spoke to just keep saying these are the terms and conditions now so you can't have a refund and refused to answer why others in this situation have been given a full refund but we are not allowed one. She repeatedly just kept saying nothing can be done, she was quite frankly rude and useless and just sending corporate spiel to me.
I have been told I'll receive a call within 24 hours (helpful when I'm at work). If not I have found the emails of the major CEOs of TUI and WILL be contacting them.
We had deliberately booked with TUI as we wanted to go to the same hotel we went to last year as we knew we were safe to.
We have only paid the deposit but it's not the point. I have also begun a charge back via PayPal!

Dear Forum users,
Thank you for all your contributions and information about the recent policy changes by TUI and the impact that this will have on those with a conviction of sexual offences towards children or a sexual risk order. We understand that the notification by the police about this may have caused difficult feelings for some of you, and that this may impact your upcoming travel plans. We are sorry that some of you may need to change your holiday plans as we understand how frustrating and disruptive this can be. We recognise that this policy may be relevant to a range of sexual offences, not just those involving online sexual offences against children. With that in mind, we’ve decided to approve posts in this thread from those who may be concerned about other types of offences where this policy could also apply.
However, we would like to gently remind people that our forum is specifically for those impacted by online sexual offences towards children and that our forum may not be the most appropriate place of support for those who are not concerned about online offences. Instead, if you have specific questions or concerns about the recent TUI policy changes and how this may impact you or your loved one’s travel plans, please contact them directly via their website: https://www.tui.co.uk/
We would encourage anyone affected by the recent changes, or who are hoping to book a holiday or travel, to read your chosen travel agency’s terms and conditions and reach out to their support/contact team if you have any specific questions before booking to ensure that you have all the relevant information.
You can also contact our Stop It Now helpline on 0808 1000 900 if you’d like some support and advice tailored to your situation, although we would not be the most suitable place if you have questions specific to TUI’s policies as we are not affiliated with them.
Kind regards,
The Forum Team

We also had notification of this from the police when they came recently for their annual home visit. Thankfully it doesn't affect a trip we have planned later this year with another company, but did make us panic that tui might just be the first of many who go down this route? Like with many things around this emotive topic, we completely understand the need for safeguards but there never seems to be any nuanced approach or understanding of the very different nature of these offences or the reducing of risks over time given the original situations which contributed to some offences and how much people can and do change. You just don't get same narrative or fairness with this, I find that upsetting that no matter what my partner does his past will always haunt and effect him, and us
