Devices now outsourced???

I got an update from OIC stating devices had now been outsourced for examination.
Does anyone know what exactly this means?
Its almost a year since the knock, so the devices have already been sat on a shelf and we were told they should have been examined 14wks ago but this never happened.
Wondering if outsourced means they are just off to be sat on another shelf.
My son turned 17 this week and this relates to when he was 15 and sure he's suffering PTSD.

The Police use outsourcing companies who are experts at forensically examining devices. Its "normal". But takes ages, like everything with all this.
As Little Robin says the police may sub contract out checking of deviced to external companies particuarly if the polices own digital forensics team has a backlog.
The OIC replied it should be coming to a conclusion but can't help but think they are going to just be moved from one shelf to another even though they've had them 12 months already and gave a timescale of 12 months.
Timescales given by anyone in this process are simply a guess and usually said to placate. In my experience. X
One of my greatest wishes in this whole sorry mess of ours is that the police were trained in a bit of psychology where they began to understand that saying something vague and hopeful but obviously not true, might get them off the hook in that moment but will do no favours to the mental health of those involved - not to do us any favours but to help things go as smoothly as possible for the process as people always appreciate honesty even if it's admitting they are as much in the dark waiting, as we are. I know that's a vain wish but in our case it's been what has made an awful situation even worse and has set up a huge distrust and dislike of the police which I don't think will ever go away.
I agree rainyday52 the trust in the police as totally gone. Plus they have no concern for mental health. On day they said my 16yr old son look terrified but they still thought acceptable to put him in a cell which I've since read is not recommended because of age. Plus had his finger prints took and photo. We think they didn't have a clue on the day which is almost a year ago.
