Background: knock in august 2023, adult attempt to engage in sexual communication with a child, plea hearing yesterday - pleaded guilty, didn't know it would mean automaticly being on the SOR (no-one has really explained anything)

Currently me and OH are still together even though it's been a difficult 2 years. I and our parents have provided supervison with the children. SS not been anywhere near or involved during this time. Was shocked to see police at my door again yesterday about the SOR as not one person ever mentioned after plea it would be an automatic thing we were told it was a possibility so assumed it would be decided on sentencing. Now wanting hubby home SS been brutal on the phone saying unlikely to be allowed home before the SOR ends in 5 years time, saying we will need a risk assessment etc. any advice or information about what to expect from this point forward as both the case worker for the SOR and SS have just said it'll be a gruelling few months but not much else or info about the assessement/what would go in our favour would be great. I also don't know if i can continue to go through this for the next 5 years ????

I dont have any advice i'm afraid but just wanted to provide some support. My OH has no restrictions on him and bail conditions were lifted in June 2024 and SS will not let him live at the house. Its absolutely ridiculous especially when they have done no assessments whatsoever. I don't know how they think they are above the law! Just prepare yourself that you will be in for a rough ride with them because of my experience with them is that they don't like you being in a relationship. Even though my SW said at the beginning that she thinks we should have marriage counselling and its not her to judge what we do with our realtionship- they are judging you x

I was under the impression that he would have 3 days after the plea hearing to attend the police station for registration? I certainly would expect police to turn up the next day about it.

I will, however, be making sure I have all the paperwork needed for my OH to go straight to the police station after plea (bank acct details/passport etc) xx

My person was informed at his plea hearing that he would have to sign on the register and would have up to 3 days to do it. He went immediately just to get it over with. It wasn't until sentencing that he was told how long he would be on it for. 10 years. He was charged with communication offence. Hope this is helpful x

As you now realise the requirment to 'sign on the register' comes about as soon as the person pleads or is found guilty of a relevent offence, they then have three days from either conviction or release from prison (if being held on remand) to attend the police station.

How long is spent on SOR comes down to the sentence recieved so this is the bit you will find out during the sentencing hearing.
