I don't mean this to sound disparaging and it is just my honest feelings but may not be everyone's but to be honest from a mother's perspective I would absolutely want to know and would be quite cross if someone hadn't told me there was a potential sex offender in the house that I allowed my child to visit. You should also look into whether this is allowed under his bail conditions/social services as there is normally a requirement to disclose or to get express permission from the child's parents and social services even if there are more adults present and you wouldn't want to put yourselves in a situation where you weren't covered.
