Duty if care to a minors who did wrong.

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the duty of care towards the children who have done wrong.
So my son has had his interview, an it appears to have been accidental upskirting, I dont want to go into too much detail, but this is his version of events.
They (the police) said they would have to inform the child that was involved and her family, they said my sons name would be given.
Now, we live on an estate, and it's the same estate as the child's family in question, I'm fearful of the backlash from this. Social media and the fact that they know where we live.
Surely, they have a duty of care to protect him too? He was 13 at the time this happened and he's 15 now.
My thoughts are, if it went to court because he's under age, his identity would be protected, if it was a community order via the police... wouldn't the same thing happen?
Does anyone know?
I'm not minimising what he has done, he's done wrong accidental or not... but if could put his safety at risk.
Thanks

Hi, sorry to hear that, it must be so stressful :-( I don't know the answer but it makes sense that they shouldn't be able to put him at risk... Hope you're okay xx
I dont see how the police could not inform the victim and their family. It obviously matters, if the victim and defendant knew each other.
But they will be warned not to discuss the case with others and definately not to say anything on social media. If they do, then it would probably be contempt of court.
I expect they would also be forbidden from making contact with your son or his family, because that is another thing that could affect any court proceedings.
