My ex husband has been caught with indecent images of my daughter he has recorded with a secret camera -when she was 11 years old. The polcie said they have also found another mobile phone in his car - but he won't give the pin and so far they can't get into the phone. This has been going on for months, has anyone else had this? I always presumed niavely that the police could get into devices! It is killing me not knowing if there is more stuff of my daughter on there...

I'm sure they can send it away for phone analysis but that can take ages there's been back logs for 1 year+ there probably trying to get him to tell them it to save time etc

Would be happy to wait, but the police are saying it's been through all the channels and they can't get in it :(

I believe there are certain phones which are impossible to break into without the owner opening them, not sure which makes/models though. It is possible for a court to order the owner to give passwords and PIN codes via a Section 49 notice under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, failure to comply with this can lead to a separate charge and prosecution.

Yes Iv heard you can get encrypted phones which police can't break into with out the owner handing the password over maybe it's something like that /: they can get a court order no doubt but still won't be able to force him to tell them but they could dish out punishment for it still...
