Magistrates done

Well today was the plea hearing day. And also moving out day. He has gone to stay with his parents. 18th September will be another day etched in my mind for not good reasons!
Looking like sentencing will be done at magistrates too but pre sentencing report could change that apparently so we will see.
There wasnt any press in the room that I know of.
From reading on here I was under the impression once he pleaded guilty he would have to sign the SOR within 3 days but he hasn't been told anything to do with this?
Listening to the evidence (like the actual conversation) was hard but glad I didnt learn anything new, which is why I went.

I really feel for you Daisy - this will be us next Wednesday. You are correct tho - he must go to the police station and sign on the register within 3 days of the plea hearing. If he doesn't this could be seen as a breach of conditions which probably won't end well.
We had a meeting with the solicitor this morning and she talked us through what was going to happen next Wednesday - signing the register was something she covered - our police station is right next door to the magistrates court so that'll be done immediately we leave court.
Sending you all the best wishes for your next steps xx

Thanks for your reply
I've told home to contact the solicitor tomorrow to check this because he wasnt told anything about this in court and unless I was on this forum I wouldnt have a clue about it.
To be fair must be nice to have a meeting beforehand with a solicitor... he just got a call from his this morning to say he couldnt attend but will send someone in his place and that was it!
Hope your court goes well, I suppose if anything, it didnt seem as bad as id built up in my head!

Hi Daisy,
yes, it's rubbish isn't it ? When my Son (autistic) was basically told to plead guilty, he attended court and it's a good job we were there. Solicitor couldn't make it and Barrister who we expected to meet beforehand wasn't there either except on video link. We were sat at the back and could hardly hear what was being said.
if I hadn't have known from reading this Forum, we wouldn't have known either that he had to sign the SOR within 3 days , Court being Day 1.
Trying to have a proper conversation and get my many questions answered is virtually impossible.
My Son who lives in supported housing had an unannounced visit by the police within a couple of days. He was pretty good to be honest but had no information about my Son's situation at all. The whole situation is a shambles, meanwhile people are left worried about breaking the rules when they haven't even been explained.
Good luck , hope you're coping with the stress of it all x

Hi there and well done for getting through today! We weren't sure either about signing the register and were going to ask the solicitor today (also in magistrates today) but the court made it very clear that it was a very severe offence not to sign on before 3 days after a guilty plea. She advised us to go straight to the police station after this and so this was what we did. We had planned to anyway. My view is that if they have to complete 5 or 7 or 10 years, it may as well start as soon as possible. If only it started from the moment of the knock, then we would be nearly over!!!!
It was not anything to worry about (about from the awful stigma), the police made it easy for my OH but had no idea what they were doing. It took less than 30 mins and was done.
Well done for getting over this hurdle, the end is in sight now!!!! X

Hi DaisyChain
I hope you're feeling okay- like you, I have these milestone dates now plaguing my mental calendar.
My person has his plea hearing on Thursday next week- I want to be there but struggling to find someone to watch my daughter. Is it really worth me being there- would you mind explaining what happened on the day? We're getting so many different versions from solicitors and online sources- some even say he'll be sentenced at the plea hearing.
Thank you so much in advance if you can x

Hi ABD
Our appointment was at 2pm and we turned up 30 minutes before hand. Solicitor spoke to him for about 5 minutes to outline the day. He said the 2 cases in the morning had been sent to crown court for sentencing so he was sure ours would too. But it wasnt so far. The pre sentencing report with the probation officer can change that.
We waited in the waiting room with lots of other people. They dont stick to times as such so I think we went in about 20 minutes after our time and were all done within 20 minutes.
The room had 2 solicitors, 3 magistrates, a foreman and a probation officer. He confirmed his name, DOB and address. They read out the charges and asked what he pled. Then read out some evidence I.e communication.
Then decided between the 3 magistrates it would be sentenced at magistrates still. And that probation would be in touch to arrange a date to have the pre sentencing report done. He had to see the probation officer once he left and that was it really.

Thank you, you too. Hope answered all your question. Let me know if you have anymore
ABD we had exactly the same experience yesterday, apart from ours was decided to be discussed at crown court. But the procedure was exactly the same as described above by DaisyChain.
The court clerk did say that these cases can sometimes be sentenced on the first court hearing but I have to say in the 3.5 years on being on here I have never heard of that happen. So I am pretty sure he won't be sentenced that day. As it is so quick and procedural, don't worry if you can't be there. Is there anyone that may be able to go in your place, just for moral support? I know my OH was very pleased not to be on his own for the event, however procedural it was.
I hope it goes as well as can be expected for you. X
