Hi lovelies it's been a while

It's been about 3 months post sentencing for my OH.

1 yr community service (which has been meetings with probation officer) and 5 years on SHPO.

Done everything by the book - notification of residence, holiday, devices etc. Has been classed as low risk. Probation officer is happy and feels they don't need to see him as frequently.

Only now the offender manager has now put "Esafe" on my partners phone. He only went in to notify them of a weekend to spend with family (with hotel because of under 18s at the residence)

Has anyone else had this installed on their persons phone and know what this entails? I'm pretty confident that he doesn't go on anything he shouldn't but feel like it's an invasion of privacy and that they are trying to deliberately catch him out.

The offender manager has taken his phone from him when he's gone in to look through his photos and internet history - no idea if this is normal/allowed? There was nothing on there but just seems very weird to me and my spidey senses are getting the "bent police" senses.

There has been so much corruption from police I don't know what is normal, what our rights are post sentencing, and what is violating my OHs rights?

TLDR: what are peoples experiences with police phone monitoring post sentencing?

Hi there

We're almost five months post sentencing. The offender manager has been to the house a couple of times. She has looked through his phone on both occasions. They have never looked at any other devices though. He has no monitoring software on any devices. He is currently deemed medium risk. x

A lot of this should be covered in the SHPO. It usually allows the police to install monitoring software and to check the devices when they want.

If the SHPO doesnt mention these things, then he can refuse to let them check the device.

My sons offender manager comes to the house about every six months and always looks through his phone. They have asked him who the recipient is in some of his messages if they don't recognise the name. My son's conviction was communication so he understands why his offender manger needs to spot check his phone when he visits.

Soon after post sentencing my sons offender manager came to the house to put monitoring software on to his phone but couldn't do so because he had an IPhone. Instead he was happy with me managing the content and privacy restrictions on the phone meaning he is unable to download any apps without me first turning off the restrictions.

We are over a year post sentencing. OH has this installed on his device. Had no issues, just means something will get flagged if something is looked at online etc, this was all outline in his SHPO. His OIC has never visited us or looked through his phone, but needs to be available when they want to have a look. Never caused any issues to him since it's been installed!

Hi,

4 years post sentencing and I think that esafe was only installed on his phone around 2 years ago. It was going through trials in other areas prior to this so others might have had it for longer depending on where they live. Before it was installed his offender manager would check his phone when she visited (2-3 times a year). He is medium risk and will likely remain at medium risk due to static factors (age at time of offence, length of previous relationships etc). He is due to come off sor and SHPO early next year but we plan to put an app on that will send reports to me in the same way that esafe sends reports to the police. It looks for keywords, any risk taking behaviour online (porn, gambling, well known apps, dating sites) and scans images for any nudity. The only flag on my partners esafe that his offender manager has mentioned is a picture I sent to him of my dog sitting up with her belly showing, it picked it up as nudity due to her colouring and the way her belly had folded.
I view it as an extra layer of accountability rather than an invasion of privacy although I will admit that before researching I would read posts on here about monitoring apps and think oh god I could never have that, I'm not the type to go through my partners phone as I viewed it as insecurity but for me protecting my daughter it is necessary xxx
