Hi all my person is due to go for their plea hearing and I was wondering if anyone has been able to ask the judge or submit a letter not to allow the address where the person was arrested from be allowed in the media. My person no longer lives at the address and myself and the kids are still hear.

It was a vigilant group that came to the house due to the person communicating with a decoy

If you have what did you write ect

Thanks for you help

You can apply for reporting restrictions. I emailed the court directly with a supporting statement explaining my request- I then had an email back saying that it would be considered but we won't know until the hearing if it's been accepted.
Good luck.

Btw, I used ChatGPT (without any names or personal details) to help me write it.

Hi ABD,

My Son's Solicitor and Barrister told me not to do this as it would only wind the Judge up. I really didn't see what harm it could do and don't know what to believe anymore. Personally, I don't see why it would wind them up but we are probably all in a position where we are so traumatised and frightened of making things worse that we feel like if we are told something we have to go along with it.

Hi Winnie,

I think we have received same advice but I'm going to ask solicitor again. Differing advice depending on solicitor is yet another thing that makes this all so difficult. And you're right we're all just so traumatized and petrified that it's hard to make clear, informed decisions.

In some cases (usually communication or attempts to meet) they'll keep the details in there for "public interest" in case anyone wants to come forward because a similar thing happened to them and refuse to remove address details.

I asked the OIC when they rang to update me of charges whether my address was on the court paperwork as I was concerned about press/retribution and my child's safety if it was released.

They said that they'd not put it on any paperwork only his bail address (not my asdress). Im thankful as there was full press story and publication at the plea hearing.

Strangely there were already restrictions in place at sentencing so nothing reported there. I hadn't asked for this and I don't think my ex's solicitor had either.

We were advised it wouldn't make any difference. In addition any application to withhold details will pique the interest of the media and may actually draw attention to your case.

i absolutely understand how you feel as I remember desperately wanting to protect myself and my children.

Sadly for us it was in the local rag, along with his picture. I wrote to the editor asking for the address to be taken out of the article, he refused saying it was in the public interest.

We just rode it out, we survived, less people speak to us but it is what it is.

Solicitor said to us that there is nowhere near as much press coverage now as there was 5 or 10 years ago. He put the figure at less than 10%.

He also said the press usually only give the street name. Helpful if you live in a long road, but not too reassuring if you live in a small village!

As for reporting restrictions, he said forget it if the offendor is of adult age.

Update-

Plea hearing was this week and the magistrates said they were sympathetic to the details in my statement and granted restrictions on the info that can be reported. If you apply, be sure to state exactly what restrictions you're requesting e.g. address/ name/ any details that identify your family.

Very relieved... it can be done.

Sentencing in early November.

The plea hearing was this week and the judge read out the full address where he was arrested which is where I'm currently staying not his current address and then went on to read out all the transcripts with the decoys . So far not seen anything gone public but I'm sure the vigilant group will post something eventually

6789 that's interesting. My ex (waiting on CPS re IIOC) was told that lower level IIOC cases don't make the media any more. Basically there are just too many of them now, which is depressing.

Sad and scared, yes, very depressing it is so widespread. What a sorry world we live in :(

I hope that as many of us as poss can avoid press coverage, and for those that don't, may interest be minimal and pass swiftly.

I have seen a couple of cases posted onto local fb groups recently. There has been a small flurry of not TOO horrible comments for 24 hrs or so, and then nothing.
