Hi all, hope everyone is bearing up ok under the horrific circumstances we all share - sending hugs Xx

just a quick thought (one of many actually)

How many of you had your persons devices triaged at 'the knock' or soon after at the police station before being sent away for Forensics?

It seems to differentiate between areas/branches of policing. My person (Son) had his quickly looked at at home (gave password without hesitation) then more deeply at the station - OIC said nothing of any concern at all ie photos, searches, apps etc but obviously still needs looking at forensically incase there is anything they've missed. Just wish it was a quicker turnaround, like we all do I know, but wondering if this will increase the wait even more as others may take priority if concerns found locally on device.

I just wish this wasn't happening at all! X

They tried to triage two devices (laptop and desktop PC) at home on the day but it was taking too long so they seized both.

We got the laptop back at the start of July (Knock in December)

Ours were never checked prior to being sent off. I asked why and got told not in my sons case. Only thing I can think is we picked up they were looking for just one image from what they said at the initial knock. Our person is our 17yr old son, 15 at time of incident, 16 at time of knock.

We got told a year, its now approx 13 months and recently got told they had been outsourced for checking.

Seems every area does its own thing in my opinion.

My persons work phone was checked during his arrest and returned straight away. His laptop was returned within a few weeks and phone within a few months.

We got the knock in June and most items got checked at home; mobiles, work laptop, girls laptops etc. They checked my person's phone last and then arrested him because they found something. Not sure what it was but my daughter heard the police talking. They then took my person's gaming pc, a few old laptops with missing leads and memory sticks. Still early days for us so not heard anything yet.

OH's work laptop was seized, triaged at the police station and returned within a week or so. Phone was the only thing sent for forensics - the remaining 15 items are still somewhere with the police and they've said we can't have them back till after sentencing.

They only took my sons xbox, phone and tablet. Didn't look at anything else. Like I put further up in thread they spoke as if looking for one image.

OIC said we could complain about how long its taking and negative impact on our son but husband is worried it will have negative impact on investigation.

I've found official complaints to be the only way of getting any sort of contact from our local force, not just the investigating team but two other teams as well. Routine communication with them has just been ignored, unless its them contacting you wanting something, but an offical complaint has to be responded to.

When we got the dreaded knock, our phones were checked in the house. Mine was obviously fine and given straight back to me (they just had to check for their own procedures to rule out my phone). His phone was taken into a van they had outside the house with 2x tech forensic expert guys in it. After about an hour or so, they arrested him and his phone and laptop were taken away for further examination. The results of that further check took months - probably about 8? They basically said he will never get those devices back and they will likely be destroyed now. I am not sure if thats the case for everyone or just our area.
