To chase or not to chase

Hi,
Does anyone have any insight as to whether it's worth chasing to get updates? We are still awaiting devices to be checked. It has been almost 14m and we have never chased. A solicitor has told us it will make no difference. Wondering what people's experiences are xx

Sorry Crushed , my experience is that it's a complete waste of time and just added to the trauma of waiting for a response that never came.
the wait - 3.5 yrs for us has been brutal

Hi Crushed,
Occasionally on here people say that they are kept up to date by the OIC but more often, and in our experience, the police happily just ignore you or if put on the spot they make up something vaguely positive eg 'expecting to hear something soon.' And then that doesn't happen. This also applies to a solicitor asking for updates as they can ask every 28 days but in our case their regular requests were ignored by the police, as the solicitor predicted would happen. So you can try and might get lucky, but don't be surprised if you end up deciding you are wasting your time. I also doubt whether the police actually carry out their promise when they tell people they will expedite things as I am now hugely cynical of anything they say or do. Our son's solicitor finally had a reply back in May saying that the police had concluded investigating and were expecting to hear from the CPS very soon with charges - and we are still on tenterhooks. I know there are backlogs but we are now at the 3 month wait, so we are even doubting if the OIC was being truthful or just saying something to make it look like they were being efficient and to appease the solicitor. I wish the police understood the stress all of this puts on families and how much better it would be to tell the truth even if it's not what the person wants to hear.

Did you ever email or only call?
Thank you xx

I regularly email OIC for update. Whether it makes a difference no idea but it makes me feel better rather than do nothing.
