Hi all x

Quick recap - Knock happened July for my 20yr old Son regarding IP address flagged for viewing an IIOC on SC. Device triaged nothing of concern but sent for forensics - Bailed for 3 months and due to answer bail in 3 weeks time at the station. Recieved a text message today off the OIC off a mobile number (not withheld) stating that an officer will be delivering a form to extend his bail tomorrow at our home address for the next three months - this has just been sprung on us, 3 weeks before the date on bail form he has now and not attending station either. Is this normal procedure? I'm panicking why it's been brought forward, and why it's not at station where he can be represented. I can't take anymore worry.

thanks for all your support xx

My person never answered bail at the police station. It was always extended via a text or email and the documentation sent through the post. He waited almost two years to be charged, so bail was extended quite a few times.

It’s quite normal now for bail extensions to be undertaken without the person having to attend in person, I think the police recognise having the person turn up at custody to be handed a piece of paper is a massive waste of time for all involved. OH has been told its being extended by email and then had the paperwork arrive by post a few days later.

As for it being done three weeks early it’s probably the police being proactive as leaving it to the last minute risks is not being extended before the applicable bail period ends, if that happens the bail becomes unenforceable and the person would have to be moved to RUI.

That said you should be getting more than one days notice as the police are required to allow the person or their solicitor time to challange the bail extention if they wish too, usually called making representations.

Daisy564 - just like your son, my 20 year old son is on bail after arrest for allegedly viewing an IIOC on Snapchat. His phone and an old iPad have been sent for forensic examination. When his initial bail was extended he received a bail notification through the post that arrived the day before he was due to attend the police station. We'd both booked the day off work to attend but didn't need to. Not sure if they will do the same again or if he will need to go to the police station when this 3 month period finishes next month.
