Hi I'm so sorry to hear that. Did it go to CPS for this decision then? And have the youth offending team been in touch?

We have just had interview with our son and now waiting again.

Thinking of you xx

That's terrible treatment. Thirteen, for goodness sake. Where is justice, understanding, compassion? So cruel.

May it soon be over with. My thoughts are with you and your son.

How is your son coping?

Is your solicitor a specialist? If not, you might be able to get some free advice from the youth justice law centre.

I think it's ultimately the police who decide if it goes to CPS or not - and they should liaise with the youth justice team. Can your solicitor check this has all happened correctly? They should have completed a gravity matrix (I'm not lawyer but that's my understanding). Could you ask for a copy to understand how the decision was made?

The youth justice team should get in touch with you ahead of court, but it can be quite last minute. You can contact them yourself, that might also be worth doing as they can do things like show you both around a few days before so it's less scary, and they can fully explain the process

Sadly the police, particularly the officers that deliver the bad news, will tell you anything to seem like they're on your side. They're not.

I'm sorry this has happened. Thinking of you and your son.

I wonder if it's been with CPS since May then waiting for a decision whether to charge or not. It's all very confusing. Hope you're all okay and get some answers from your solicitor xx

Please keep us posted. This case is particularly harrowing 'just' due to son's age, but with complex needs too, it really is completely out of order. If you can, make many phone calls today, get answers and understanding, and get support for both of you. I am outraged. Grrrrr.

Hello Heartisbreaking

I am so sorry that you and your son find yourself in this situation. I agree with what Starr has said - this decision will have been made because of the gravity matrix score.

This link explains how the score is worked out for children may be of use for your to have a look at https://www.npcc.police.uk/SysSiteAssets/media/downloads/publications/publications-log/criminal-justice/2023/child-gravity-matrix-v2.2---september-2023.pdf

To receive the summons must have been a terrible shock. Are you and your son receiving any professional support? If not, it may be something you can consider exploring.

I am thinking of you and your son x

solicitor called and waiting for a call back

yes they did wrong not condoning it at all but to take it this far I'm flummoxed haven't eaten for two days since finding out feel sick every time I do

No professional support not sure where to look ?
