KIK is very anonymous. From what I recall no number or email address is needed. This is part of the problem with so much on the internet.

My suspicion is that the police actually find KIK quite helpful to arrest as many people as possible.

@InTatters My husband had the knock on July 5th last year. He's accused of making/distributing indecent images on KIK and has since been released under investigation.
I don't understand why kik is still around. It is so easy for someone to click on a link and accidently download indecent images.
